張僑勇 Yung CHANG

張僑勇,常居加拿大蒙特婁的電影工作者。雙親來自中國大陸,母親在臺北長大,因此啟發他對中國文化的興趣。張僑勇曾在中國拍攝的兩部作品:《沿江而上》、《千錘百鍊》,並獲獎無數。其中《沿江而上》贏得2008年金馬獎最佳紀錄片和加拿大金尼獎(加拿大奧斯卡)、入圍艾美獎和獨立精神獎,並走遍日舞影展等多個國際性影展,於北美也獲得成功的票房。

他的第二部紀錄片作品《千錘百煉》,獲得CNEX部分資金支持。此片曾於日舞影展首映,並在世界各地的影展和電影院放映。除了2012年得到金馬獎肯定,其超過兩百場的放映,成為中國境內放映次數最多的社會紀實影片。

張僑勇目前正在編寫首部敘事電影《茄子》的劇本,並同時發展新的紀錄片計畫。2015年時他帶著《茄子》參加日舞影展編劇及導演實驗室。2013年,他受邀成為奧斯卡金像獎主辦單位「美國電影藝術與科學學會」的成員。

 

Yung CHANG is a filmmaker based in Montreal, Canada. His parents are originally from Mainland China. CHANG’s mother grew-up in Taipei. CHANG’s interest in his Chinese culture brought him back to China where he made two award-winning films. The first, Up the Yangtze won a Taipei Golden Horse for Best Documentary in 2008, a Canadian Screen Award (Canada’s Oscar), and was nominated for Emmy and Independent Spirit awards. The film went on to play in hundreds of international film festivals including the prestigious Sundance Film Festival and was one of the top box office releases for an independent film in North America.

China Heavyweight was his follow-up feature in 2012. It premiered at Sundance and went on to play at international festivals and cinemas. It won the 2012 Taipei Golden Horse and is the most-widely screened social-issue documentary in China, having screened in over 200 cinemas across the country. It was partially supported by CNEX Foundation.

Yung CHANG is currently writing his first narrative feature, Eggplant, and is in development for future documentary projects. He attended the 2015 Sundance Screenwriters and Directors Lab with Eggplant. In 2013, CHANG was invited to become a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the organization behind the Oscars.
