出生於臺灣、定居於紐約的錢孝貞,擔任紀錄片剪輯師、製片人與顧問已達三十年時光。錢孝貞首次操刀剪輯的Something Within Me於1993年日舞影展中獲得三項獎項。她的知名剪輯作品包括:2001年奧斯卡金像獎最佳紀錄片提名的Scottsboro: An American Tragedy;榮獲匹巴迪大獎的三部影片Malcolm X: Make It Plain、Travis、《太陽能媽媽》;獲頒2008年格里爾森紀錄片獎最具娛樂性紀錄片的《請投我一票》;由兩度獲頒奧斯卡金像獎的導演芭芭拉.科普執導的影片Dixie Chicks: Shut Up and Sing和《莎朗瓊斯》;以及曾於白宮特映會中展播的 A Place at the Table《一席之位》。
錢孝貞製作並剪輯了以紐約計程車司機為主題的紀錄片《誠徵司機》。她也擔任監製,曾協助製作BBC故事村的《成名之路》、美國公共電視台POV的《風暴製造者》,以及《我只認識你》和Daze of Justice。目前她正在監製的影片有People’s Republic of Desire和《馬良的時光機》。錢孝貞擔任多部得獎影片顧問,包括:Censored Voices、《不如跳舞》、《黑法正義》、《媽咪我愛你》及《流氓燕》。
深深相信經驗傳承與栽培新秀的錢孝貞,自2010年起於日舞協會紀錄片剪輯與故事實驗營、2011年起於CNEX紀錄片工作坊、IFP獨立製片實驗營、Hot Docs加拿大國際紀錄片影展的藍冰實驗營、阿姆斯特丹國際紀錄片影展的IDFA學院,以及Dare to Dream Asia等單位擔任剪輯顧問。她曾多次受紐約大學Tisch藝術學院、哥倫比亞大學新聞學院、紐約電影學院的邀請,擔任客座講師。錢孝貞曾經参與在亞裔媒體中心(CAAM)擔任十年的理事,這是一個以呈現亞裔美國人經驗的豐富與多元性為理念的非營利組織。目前她是隸屬紐約市長辦公室的媒體與娛樂諮詢委員會成員、粗剪顧問團的一員、美國電影剪輯師協會會員,並為奧斯卡紀錄片學院的一員。
Born in Taiwan and based in New York, Jean Tsien has been working in documentary for over 30 years as an editor, producer, and consultant. Her editing debut, Something Within Me, won three Awards at the 1993 Sundance Film Festival. Tsien’s notable editing credits include: the 2001 Academy Award, Best Documentary Feature nominee, Scottsboro: An American Tragedy; three Peabody Award-winning films: MALCOLM X: Make It Plain, Travis and Solar Mamas; Please Vote For Me, a 2008 Grierson award recipient for most entertaining documentary; Dixie Chicks: Shut Up and Sing and Miss Sharon Jones! both directed by two-time Academy Award winning director Barbara Kopple; A Place At The Table – which was presented in a special screening at the White House.
Tsien produced and edited Drivers Wanted, a PBS documentary about New York City taxi drivers. She was the Executive Producer for The Road To Fame for BBC/Storyville; The Storm Makers for POV/PBS; Please Remember Me and Daze of Justice. Currently she is executive producing People’s Republic of Desire and Ma Liang’s Time Machine. Tsien consulted on many award-winning films such as: Censored Voices, Dancing in Jaffa, Give Up Tomorrow, Wo Ai Ni Mommy, and Hooligan Sparrow.
As a strong believer in mentorship and nurturing emerging talents, Tsien has served as an editing advisor at the Sundance Institute Edit and Story Lab since 2010, CNEX Chinese Documentary Forum since 2011, IFP Lab, Hot Docs Blue Ice Lab, IDFAcademy and Dare to Dream Asia. She has been a guest speaker for the NYU Tishch school of the Arts, Columbia University School of Journalism and New York Film Academy. Tsien served ten years as board member for The Center for Asian American Media (CAAM), a non-profit organization whose mission is to present the richness and diversity of Asian American experiences. Currently she is a member of the New York City Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment Advisory Committee, Rough Cut Service,, American Cinema Editors and the Documentary branch of the Academy.
