Sunny Side of the DocAsian (SSD)

After Hong-Kong, Séoul & Tokyo, we are continuing on our Asian journey, begun three years ago, helping you discover particularities, potential and partners in each of these countries.
But something has happened during this short period of time: the Inter-Asian Documentary Market has been set up. Exchanges of programmes, coproductions, Forums and Festivals have been developed. And not only have Japan, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan and Hong Kong pursued their activities together, but the whole of South East Asia has joined with China, and are awaiting India, to create a vast area for exchanges. The whole of the continent of Asia has woken up to the documentary, in all its forms and on all its screens, from the smallest to the most gigantic! It is now in the Far East that the documentary flag has started to fly.

ASIAN SIDE is a meeting point for our cultural differences, our specific realities, and our common desire to tell strong, universal factual stories, and show them to as broad an audience as possible in all our countries.
This is not easy to achieve; but TOGETHER, with genuine mutual respect, we will manage, step by step… We are beginning to build sustainable and confident professional relationships. I have seen an increasing number of coproduction projects be born and develop between our continents, and I am delighted to see this! This is what Asian Side is for.

The last  SUNNY SIDE OF THE DOC took place in La Rochelle (France) from 26 to 29 June 2012. It had been unanimously recognized as a huge success, mainly because of the active participation of a strong Asian delegation!
Over the past 23 years we have opened up the International Documentary Market to more and more new genres, new writing, new screens and new technologies … but mostly to the new players from Latin America and Asia. Next year, for the 24th SUNNY SIDE,  we shall extend our curiosity to the Arabic countries, South Africa and New Zeland… We shall be The Place where the Doc World gathers; where Projects are shared and coproduced.

We are looking forward to seeing you all there, to continue together what we have already started.
