Senior Consultant, Sundance Documentary Film Program (DFP)

Bruni Burres is Senior Consultant with the Sundance Documentary Film Program (DFP). Her main role with the DFP is to expand the roster of filmmakers  working  with  the  program  and  broaden  the  human  rights  themes  that the program explores. Bruni has been working at the intersection between human rights and arts and culture for the past 20 years. From 1991 – 2008 she was the director of the Human Rights Watch International Film Festival (which she also co-founded.) In 2011, in partnership with the International Centre for Transitional Justice, Bruni produced the documentary, La Toma (The Siege), which explores the lasting cultural and political impact of the 1985 siege of Palace of Justice in Colombia.

Bruni participates at international documentary pitching forums and events,   and works closely with filmmakersdeveloping human rights themed projects.

Sundance Institution

Sundance Institute, founded by Robert Redford in 1981, is dedicated to the development of artists of independent vision. Sundance Documentary Film Program provides year­round support to contemporary issue, nonfiction filmmakers worldwide in the production and exhibition of cinematic  documentaries with human rights themes. The program includes: the Documentary Fund, the Documentary and Creative Producers Labs, Work In Progress Screenings, “STORIES OF CHANGE: Social Entrepreneurship In Focus Through Documentary” in partnership with the Skoll Foundation, and   Docsource which connectsfilmmakers and human rights stakeholders worldwide.

DFP grants to 40-50 docs annually, often in coproduction with broadcasters internationally. As a funder, DFP take no territorial rights and DFP and Sundance Channel funding are completely separate.

The Sundance Documentary Fund supports films that focus on current human rights issues, freedom of expression, social justice, civil liberties, and exploring critical issues of our time.
