CNEX Chinese Documentary Forum (CCDF) is a documentary production platform. Modeled after international documentary pitching forums, CCDF connects filmmakers with international commissioning editors, buyers or funders in order to support documentary creation, increase professional exchange, as well as promote international co-production.<\/p>\n
Over the years, there\u2019s been an increase interest in films about Chinese cultures and societies from the international community. However, with language barriers, Chinese filmmakers have had a hard time entering into and participating in the international documentary markets. Chinese filmmakers have not been able to take full advantage of the resources provided by the international film markets, and face a narrow or under-developed production or distribution channel.<\/p>\n
CNEX Foundation, in association with New Chinese Association for Cultural and Creative Imaging, created the first Chinese Documentary Forum in 2010. Out of 90 submissions, 18 projects were selected and filmmakers had the opportunity to meet with and pitch to internationally renowned documentary film professionals and commissioning editors, including representatives from Sundance, Sunny Side of the Docs , BBC , Arte , NHK , Discovery , National Geographic, Phoenix TV , Sun TV , PTS , Want Want China Times. Many of the 18 films have gone on to make international co-production deals with broadcasters and buyers.<\/p>\n
In an effort to repeat the success, CNEX will organize the second annual Chinese Documentary Forum and seek projects with themes relating to Chinese culture or society.<\/p>\n
The 20 selected films are REQUIRED to participate in a 3-day training workshop. CNEX will invite internationally acclaimed documentary film professionals to conduct the training workshops whereby filmmakers will receive one-on-one guidance and feedback, and hone the craft of pitching in order to compete at the Forum.<\/p>\n
During the 2-day forum, filmmakers will each pitch to a panel of international commissioning editors and buyers. Filmmakers will have the platform to explore the international market and discuss international co-production opportunities with the panelists. The panel will also vote for the project with the \u201cBest Pitch.\u201d The \u201cBest Pitch\u201d project may receive production support from CNEX, including financial support, co production opportunities, or presenting the film in international markets.<\/p>\n
