Vice President of Programming,\u00a0Independent Television Service (ITVS)<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
CLAIRE AGUILAR is Vice President of Programming at the Independent Television Service (ITVS), which funds, promotes and distributes independently produced programming to public\u00a0 television.\u00a0\u00a0 At ITVS, she oversees all aspects of program initiatives, including programming\u00a0 strategy, funding calls, peer panel review\u00a0 and funding recommendations. She commissions programming from U.S. independent producers and from international producers for ITVS\u2019s International Media Development Fund, and co-curates the Independent Lens series, a series of independently produced programs on PBS.\u00a0 She came to ITVS from public television station KCET\/Los Angeles, where she programmed the station\u2019s schedule and managed programming acquisitions. Prior to that she was a film programmer at the UCLA Film and Television\u00a0 Archive,\u00a0 one of the leading\u00a0 exhibition\u00a0 venues for international documentary and classic Hollywood films.\u00a0 She has curated film and media exhibitions for the American Film Institute, the Los Angeles Asian American Film and Video Festival, and the Wexner Center for the Arts in Ohio. She has served as a programming consultant and panelist for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, the Rockefeller Foundation, The National Endowment for the Arts, the Pew Fellowships in the Arts and many other media and funding organizations.\u00a0 A second-generation Filipina American, she holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications Studies and a Master of Arts in Film and Television Studies from UCLA. She serves on the board of Women Make Movies, STEPS International and the EURODOC Steering Committee.<\/p>\n

ITVS<\/strong><\/p>\nThe Independent Television Service (ITVS)<\/strong> funds, presents, and promotes award-winning documentaries and dramas on public television and cable, innovative new media projects on the Web, and the Emmy Award-winning weekly series Independent Lens Thursday nights at 10:00 PM on PBS.<\/p>\nITVS International<\/strong> is a division of the Independent Television Service that runs the Global Perspectives Project (GPP), an international exchange of documentary films made by independent producers, bringing international voices to U.S. audiences and American stories to audiences abroad.<\/p>\nITVS brings independently-produced, high-quality public broadcast and new media programs to local, national and international audiences. The independent producers who create ITVS programs take creative risks, tackle complex issues and express points of view seldom explored in the mass media. ITVS programs enrich the cultural landscape with the voices and visions of underrepresented communities, and reflect the interests and concerns of a diverse society.<\/p>\n
